LOM - Locanda Officina Monumentale
Cascina Lupetta, an agricultural building with storage facilities dating back to 1820, finds a new identity in the Lom Centre, a project promoted by four partners: Andrea Borri, Michele Borri, Stefano Micelli and Alfredo Trotta. The building, originally privately owned, is purchased by the Municipality. For many years it becomes an unused and abandoned place, before being bought at auction in 2019, the year in which the full conservative restoration begins.
Project Overview:
LOM was created as a space for meeting between 4.0 technologies and craftsmanship, dedicated to research, innovation and the enhancement of Italian tradition. Included within the framework of the Milan 2030 PGT, it is an urban regeneration intervention that engages with the historic context of the Monumental Cemetery.
Spread over three levels (more than 2,000 m² between indoor and outdoor spaces), it welcomes visitors with an exposed brick façade that evokes connection and openness.
The project stands out for a strong sustainable approach based on recovery and reuse: materials from the site, reclaimed timber or timber from certified supply chains, parquet flooring made from recycled materials. Part of the energy is produced by a photovoltaic system, with low-consumption systems and rainwater harvesting.
The aluminium frames in recycled aluminium and the minimalist steel-line system reinterpret the original industrial aesthetic, restoring to the building a contemporary character consistent with its memory.
